It can also be prepared by heating metastannic acid obtained by the action of conc. HNO3
on tin.
Sn + 4 HNO3(conc.) ——> H2SnO3 + 4 NO3 + H3O

H2SnO3 ——> SnO3 + H2O
It occurs in nature as tin stone. It is a white solid insoluble in water and is amphoteric in nature. With
NaOH it forms Na2SnO3
. It is used for making enamels and glazes for tiles, pottery etc. it is also used as a polishing powder.
